I was excited to find out that our Fresh Colonial bathroom was voted by the Houzz community as a winner of the Best of Houzz 2013 awards! A big thank you to all those who added this bathroom to their personal ideabooks! Houzz is such a great resource for design ideas and inspiration for homeowners. If you haven’t already, you should definitely spend some time browsing their millions of design images!
The most frequently asked questions about this bathroom are the sources for the tile and the sconces. In case you are wondering as well, the tile is by Walker Zanger :: Vintage Glass, Zinc Matte in a 1″ x 1″ Mosaic. The lovely sconces are the Petal Sconces from Circa Lighting.
A friend was shopping for lamps recently and asked about the one we used in the Red Hawk Master Bedroom. The lamp is from Arteriors and is one of my favorites. It was a wonderful way to add just the right amount of color to this mostly neutral room.

Have you come across any colorful lamps lately that you are loving?
Something new that caught my eye this week.
Mary McDonald has created a collection for Schumacher and it is full of the most luxurious textiles. I’m loving the textures and modern twist on traditional designs.
Something that inspired me this week.
Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, & liking how you do it. I think this could be the most honest interpretation of success and applies to all areas in our lives. Such wise words, Dr. Angelou. Thank you for them.
Happy Weekend! It’s finally here!
It was a pleasant surprise to wake up to see our little Ryan’s nursery in the Dallas Morning News over the weekend! You can check it out here, if you would like.
And while I do love his nursery, I think it is safe to say he stole the show! I may be biased, but how could he not?!? Love that sweet boy of ours.
Something I loved that I saw this week.
A beautiful big girl bedroom from lead designer Lisa Palmer of Summerhouse. I love the color combination of the orange + aqua (obviously!). I love the various patterns–from the bedding, to the stripes on the wall, to the graphic floor! The art work is so beautiful and I adore the monogrammed headboard.
Something that I loved that I read this week.
Design*Sponge started a new series this week about modern etiquette. This week, Grace Bonney, offered some great suggestions for both being a gracious host + a gracious guest. It is the little things that make us feel appreciated as a host and as a guest! Excited to follow this series.
Something I loved and am looking forward to this week.
My brother-in-law recently returned from an incredible trip to the Patagonia and has been sharing stunning images like the one above with us. This whole setting seems magical. Looking forward to taking our own adventure here someday soon.
Tile can create a focal point in a bathroom or kitchen and is one of my favorite elements to design in these rooms. It is a great way to add texture, color, and depth to a space. I have been wanting to share a few tiles that I’m loving from recent projects and one that I am looking forward to using.
Walker Zanger :: Waterfall Mosaic Collection, Rain pattern, Woodridge/Pearl Blend
This mosaic tile is beautiful and helps to create such a serene feeling in this master bathroom. The tiles are a combination of slate and iridescent glass.
Ann Sacks :: Idris 4×8 field tile in Grey Chine
I love the color and finish on this terra cotta tile from Ann Sacks.
New Ravenna :: Pandora in Jewel Glass + Honeycomb in Stone
I have not had the pleasure of using any New Ravenna tile yet, but every tile they make is absolutely gorgeous.
Welcome to your week! How amazing are these doors? Have you seen any lovely doors lately? I’d love for you to share!
Last year was such a wonderful year that I thought it needed a proper goodbye. Here are a few of the highlights from the year.
In January, ESD launched our new website and started blogging! The beginning of the year was also full of preparations for the arrival of our sweet baby boy. I started planning his nursery and loved every second of seeing it come together.
Our baby was also showered with so much love at my Bb is for Baby Boy Shower in Colorado and my Cute As A Button Shower in Texas.
I shared one of my favorite travel spots and our final trip before baby to San Francisco. I also started welcoming you to your week with some of my favorite doors. This was the first series for the blog and seemed to be the topic most posted about throughout the year. Hoping to change that up a bit this year!
Our little boy made his debut in March and we finished his Orange and Aqua Nursery just in time! I was overwhelmed by the love for his room from all of you! His sweet space was even featured in Baby Lifestyles Magazine June/July issue and awarded an ASID Dallas DesignOvation Award.
ESD finished up another fun project with Holmes Builders and shared the Modern Home Tour here first. Along with that, we shared our Traditional Comfort project, which featured a lovely bedroom and home office.
I started using Instagram to share the details of my day through pictures. You can follow along, if you like! (@erinsander)
In September, the Red Hawk Model for the Holmes Builders opened. This home is worth seeing if you are ever in Coppell!
The fall brought ESD’s 3rd anniversary and we celebrated with a giveaway! It has been a fabulous three years and we are looking forward to many more. Our family traveled to Chicago for a quick trip and stayed at the incredible Public Hotel. I found a little time for blogging and posted about some of my favorite lantern choices for lighting.
The end of the year passed by way too quickly, as it always does. I enjoyed a little time off over the holidays and spent time with family and friends. Our team at ESD has been growing and we are working on just how we want to share everything here with you. Cheers to 2012 and here is to a brand new year!
Happy New Year! I love how this time of year is full of greater resolve for the future. Looking forward to a bright 2013! May this be your year!
